I have 2 ocean kayaks that are probably around 9 feet, and I have a Ford Explorer Sport Trac, which has a short bed.
I always go kayaking at a local spot in my neighborhood about 5 minutes away, so it’s alright to strap them in the back of my truck, but I want to go to a further place, about 25 minutes away.
I have 2 tie-down straps that keep them pretty safe on the bed, and I always have red ribbons to show that they hang off, but I want to know if it is safe (and legal) to drive with them in the back?
Thank you!
I do it all the time with two or three kayaks in my trucks, both of which have 8 foot beds. The kayaks are 9.5 feet and 10 foot so a good two foot sticks out the back.
But the truck I just got rid of was a short bed and the kayak I had then was a ten footer, even longer than yours.
I had those tie down handles on the inside of the bed and just put a rope through there, then through the rope handle on the kayak, front and back. Often traveled going 60 mph, no problems.
If you turn the kayaks upside down to minimize air flow getting in the cockpit and pulling them up and also strap them down good and tight they should be fine, I doubt they’ll even move. Don’t forget, the cab of the truck will create a dead air zone immediately behind it. The red flags should eliminate any chance of getting pulled over by police.

So my neighbors have a wild cherry tree growing right next to our driveway, and its damn near a perfect 45 degree angle from the ground up. It’s approximately 15 foot tall (from base of trunk to top branches of crown, following the trunk. A little shorter going straight vertical…lol) with a trunk base of around 10 inches in diameter. There are no other large trees around, and my question is: If i were to set a 4×4 post in concrete and attach a heavy duty ratchet strap from post to tree and tighten it every few days, would it straighten the tree up over time or just cause more and more tension until the trunk snaps? Ive trimmed the tree for her in past and offered to cut it down (because its really an eye sore) but she’s set on keeping it. If this method wouldn’t work, will anything? If you have any answers could you please post source to confirm, i really don’t want to kill her tree and have to buy one to replace it. Thanks in advanced.
Hmmm. Thanks for your answer, but i feel this tree is a little bigger than your imagining. Or maybe a little bigger than i described. Its not a baby tree. It has been there for a few years. (id say at least 4-5 years) And your right we had a wind storm following hurricane Ike and i’m pretty sure that’s what knocked it over. Ive nudged at the tree to see how flexible it was and it wouldn’t budge much at all. (i lay concrete for living, id say i’m fairly strong to say the least) I don’t know if its the crown/canopy weight or if the trunk is just that stiff. I’m not too sure this tree could be straightened with one pull. (even with a bunch of guys) i figured it would have to be done over time. But hey, what do i know about straightening trees. I could go take a picture and post it online on image site and link to it if it would help any.
Ok, so i went out and pushed it a little and it did sway a little. So maybe my previous statement was off. I trimmed the limbs hanging over our drive and i thought it was sturdy. Ill talk with my neighbor and see what she wants to do. I welcome any other opinions. Thanks
You don’t really need that much pressure to straighten a small tree. Don’t use concrete,. You’ll just be making work for yourself later digging it out and you don’t need a 4×4. A couple of 2x2s would work or a steel fence post. Hammer them in good making a v on the opposite side to the lean. You want the posts just past the drip line of the tree. Look at the tree and Gauge how much top growth it has on each side of the tree. Put a piece of old garden hose over a length of nylon rope. Rest the hose on the trunk so the rope can’t cut into the tree. And pull it upright as far as it will go without forcing the tree and fasten it off. Prepare the second cord and fasten it. Then you’ll have to work back and forth to make sure there is no slack or have a helper handle one rope. If it is not perfectly upright leave it to set down roots until next spring and then you may be able to tighten it more. If it’s relatively upright it will be fine and the tree will compensate for a slight lean.
The whole problem arose from not staking the tree when it was first planted before it sst down roots. A strong wind blew it over and that’s the way it grew. Once it sets down roots on that side it will remain upright

Beginning early this year, certain search engine made some changes to their search ranking, the reason cited is that google wanted to provide more relevant results, on official google blog it is estimated 11.8% search results will be affected by this update, say it another way, almost 12% of google search results are useless or of low quality. They planned and started the update about one year ago, maybe that’s why some of my ranks dropped out of first 10 pages, on the other hand almost all keywords promoted by contextual links are not affected, and a few of them even gained a few positions, it’s almost a sure thing that plain link building loses all it’s attraction, at least in the eye of google.
What is old way of link building any way? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they put your links on websites which only exist for holding links, the content on those sites will never be updated, almost all of them are garbage, the name link spamming are just for these sites. New google algorithm most likely will punish these link spammers, all the links on those websites will have the same fate.
Examples will be great for explanation. When I got into online marketing long time ago, I needed to rank the keyword, Snow Chain, of course with old way of link building, almost all the sites I got link from had too many links, and those sites had only links, no real content at all. This strategy worked in the beginning, eventually the keyword could be found on first page, the honeymoon lasted until google changed it’s mind. Something opposite happened to this keyword, chain pullers, we promoted this keyword with articles and blog posts, almost no plain links, you can imagine how this keyword ranks. So contextual link wins this time, what about future? In fact the only thing matters here is content, so if you create great content, you will attract readers as well as search engines. It’s never too late to build good blogs for business purpose, such as this interesting blog, best smartphones , I build it as a hobby and kept adding good or mediocre content, it’s no way this site will rank, right?, actually, no, much to my surprise that the site actually ranks for quite a few keywords. As far as SEO concerned, blog marketing with great content is the way to go. Now imagine you have your own blog network, such as Red Silver Reflective Tape, then you will have a powerful weapon in your SEO arsenal.
At the end of day all you have to do is to create attractive content, get people to enjoy and share your stuff, in the mean time advertise your business with your content, your effort will reward you handsomely in the end. Persistence and patience are the keys to success, you shouldn’t expect things to improve overnight, it doesn’t matter you’re doing SEO or advertising your business, let’s keep building and maintaining our blogs until end of the day. One of the best articles directories is EzineArticle, a new article will be indexed and cached in less than an hour, popular blogs will get your post indexed as soon as you post it, let look at some aticles or posts which are published and indexed, say this one, rigging hardware, nice writing, good content, published on popular site, this article is a good example of article marketing.
By the way, we have hot social media now, no one can afford to not using them. Short demonstration of what happens to cargo during transportation behind the curtains of a curtain side trailer. You will get an up close view of an open curtain side trailer loaded with intermediate bulk containers and other cargo. When the truck comes to a halt unsecured cargo moves forward hitting other cargo inside the trailer. The impact causes a hole in the intermediate bulk container and the liquid spills out. After watching this video you will understand the importance of proper cargo securing during transportation. Often curtain sided vehicles do not have proper restraint straps inside, so you have to make sure your cargo is secured. The test in the video was performed at the Cordstrap Training and Testing Facility. We are the global leading organization for development, research, manufacturing and sales of cargo and load securing products and systems.
